YouTube Music Improvements Add to Playlist Screen
2022-02-28
YouTube Music initially experienced some problems after its launch. However, it's been two years since Google Play Music shut down and the new YouTube-based service launched, and the improvements are clearly visible. Now the developers are working on another major update that will take the experience of using playlists to a whole new level. One of the Reddit platform users announced the latest design in their post.
At the moment, on the "Add to Playlist" screen, you can only see a dry list of those playlists that you have already created (with titles only); recent ones are at the top of the list, and at the bottom, you see the "Add" button. YouTube wants to diversify and spice up this boring interface a bit. Judging by the redesign screenshot, each playlist will get a cover, and a subtitle with the number of tracks added, and newly created collections will be presented above the main list in the form of a horizontal carousel. The "Add" button will be reduced and moved to the right screen edge. The overall look of the "Add to Playlist" section will also be redesigned. It will completely cover the screen and not look like a popup.
The developers are still working on the new design. Currently, the interface described above is only available as part of A/B testing. Testers are picked randomly among subscribers. It is reported that such users have some problems with the updated service, and quite often. Of course, at the end of testing, the company will analyze the collected data on bugs and fix them. So it's too early to talk about the final version of the "Add to Playlist" screen.
We think the company will pay close attention to users' reports as YouTube Music really grows in popularity. While it doesn't yet pose a significant threat to Apple Music or Spotify, it has a lot ahead of it. Please share your experience with YouTube. What did you like about it, and what features would you change?
