Township: Farm & City Building review

Township is an amazing free-to-play city-building and farming game where gamers are actually playing as town planners. A freemium hit from the developer Playrix, the game has been downloaded millions of times. This construction and management simulator can be played on iOS, Android, Facebook, and PC (Mac OS and Windows).

An Absolute Blast to Play

If you love planting, harvesting, processing and distributing then you will get to experience them all in Township: Farm and City building. Playing township is just like how to keep a real town running, and its occupants happy. This is a free-to-play game but features ads and in-app purchases.

The functions of Township seem much like a fusion of building games like Farm heroes or the Tycoon series. Though laid out in a similar grid system, the game offers its players much more in terms of commerce and community expansion— grow crops and feed animals on your farm, which will be processed and distributed later.

Each time players complete an action such as harvesting, distributing, they are rewarded with the game currency— cash. But Township is not just about farms as players are planners too. They need to make their town profitable by growing and expanding its offerings and townsfolk.

As players construct and tend to farms, they are also tasked with keeping the residents happy. This translates into adding decorative elements, building new structures, and filling orders from customers. Gamers can add anything like Burj Khalifa, the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, or the carnival area to create a sense of community in their digital town.

Bring Your Creative Gene Out in Township

This game will literally boost your creativity—from getting the hang of how things work, players will be on their way to use the tools to build their farms and make money to expand the town. As your business is booming, you will attract more customers who would place special orders. Once you fulfill those orders by providing the products they needed, you will earn more money.

As the progression continues, you will share your town updates with your friends and family through social media. You can even visit their digital towns, send or receive gifts once your app is connected to your favorite social media page.

Township is a unique blend of farming and urban space, where the sound effect complements the in-depth imagery and enhances players’ experience of how farms and towns operate.

It is recommended to watch the brief guide to help you learn the rules and how to make use of building tools before you start playing.

Pros

  • A well-balanced game with many things to do;
  • Immersive gameplay that capitalizes on construction and collection;
  • A perfect game to play during downtime;
  • Share your progress or visit others’ towns via social media.

Cons

  • Despite free to play, the pass needs to be purchased for town expansion;
  • Displays ads.

Great

It seems Township has taken some inspiration from Farm Ville, but it is a very different city builder/farming simulator. The developer has offered quite a unique blueprint to follow. Townships progression arc is indistinct and ad-hoc; players will be constructing a barn for cows, and the next day they will be busy building a zoo for public entertainment. This progression makes the grind very interesting as you can’t figure out what is next.
