One block at a time! That idea of the original Minecraft seems even bizarre now, given how many complications the game has. But what if you return to it in 2022? The perfect idea for an April Fools’ Day joke. And Mojang not only suggested it but made it real with the One Block at a Time Snapshot. Go and see it with your own eyes to believe it.

Exactly what you think. Instead of adding new features, Minecraft practiced a little subtraction, removing almost everything you have got used to. Forget the inventory and the weaponry: now the whole world is your holster. Forget the XP: it’s gone. And forget crafting: use the natural resources as they are.

Nothing can be completely destroyed in this reduced Minecraft. Neither can mobs. All you can do with them is throw them into lava or down from a cliff. The chests are also indestructible in this version – that is, you cannot open them at all. Completely. As Mojang puts it, they have become even more exciting.

As you break something, you will end up holding a block of the material over your head. And as you click when looking at nothing in particular, you will just throw it. That’s it: the simplicity of the original Minecraft is back. Jokes aside, it indicates how much Minecraft has evolved through the years it’s around. Despite holding on to its minimalist appearance, the game is now incredibly more complicated and advanced than it was.

Mojang has even published a video devoted to this Snapshot, funny, emotional, and preparing the players to what’s coming. Of course, you don’t have to play this version necessarily. But if you do, you will see your favorite game completely reshaped. Hardly will you want to stay in this mode for long, but as a joke it does its job perfectly. Does it? What do you think about it? Was it funny? Tell us what you think about this joke in the comments!
