Super Mario Maker 2 review
Super Mario Maker 2 is an exclusive game for Nintendo Switch. It was released in 2019 and since has sold more than 5 million copies, making it one of the most popular games on Switch. In the game, you can either complete the built-in story mode or use the powerful editor tool to create levels and share them with the community. Or you can simply enjoy thousands of courses created by other players.
Gameplay: Create Your Own Mario
The general idea of Super Mario Maker 2 is to provide players an enhanced editor tool to allow them to create their own courses. The game perfectly reaches its purpose, and the editor tool allows players to create almost any course they imagine. The story mode contains 120 levels, developed by Nintendo, but that is nothing compared with the community-created content. There are already more than 10 million playable courses available, which is more than just impressive. Each player can upload up to 100 levels to public access, allowing to share everything you create with the community.
Graphics: Fresh Mario
The graphics do not change much from game to game in the Mario series. Super Mario Maker utilizes the same style of Nintendo, which you already know. The cartoony models are detailed enough to be recognizable and attractive, while the backgrounds will definitely catch your eye from time to time. Despite being developed for the small screen of Nintendo Switch, the game looks attractive even when projected to a big TV screen. Super Mario Maker 2 utilizes 2.5D graphics, in which the terrain is 2D, and the models are 3D. It Is a nice combination to make the game look like a traditional Mario and simultaneously fill it with modern animations and visual effects.
Controls: Easy to Create
What is even more impressive about Super Mario Maker 2 is the simplicity of controls. While playing a course, the controls are pretty typical for platformer Mario games, but the level editor is a new thing, developed for Nintendo Switch. It is incredibly easy to learn to create levels, which is surprising, taking into account the range of possibilities of this tool.
