Mirador is a new retail store in southeast Portland that focuses on the connection between food preparation, our physical health and the health of our community and planet.
The product span can be described as goods for the kitchen, health and home. For the kitchen the goal is to offer items that help with food processing such as grain mills, juicers, canning and bread-making equipment with a good array of standard kitchen ware such as bowls and bake ware. The idea is to promote more awareness of where food comes from and how it is prepared.
To support all of this there is a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan cookbooks as well as products to support the raw foods community.
For personal health care the emphasis is on herbal tinctures, essential oils, homeopathic remedies and many books to help one further explore these subjects. For the home there are natural cleaning products, non-toxic pest control, items made from hemp and numerous pieces made from recycled materials.
As much as possible the products are purchased from companies or artists in Portland and the northwest. Mirador offers a discount to customers who walk, bike or bus to the store and to members of KBOO, People's Food Co-Op and The BTA. In the future there will be classes on subjects such as bread baking, raw foods and aromatherapy.
Mirador was started by Lynn and Steve Hanrahan in July of 1999 in an effort to blend their personal interests in health and food into a community minded store.
